Dislocated Intraocular Lenses

We do cataract surgery all the time, and at the time of cataract surgery, we place intraocular lens implants. One thing that can happen to lens implants over time is that they can move out of place. It is very rare for this to happen, but it is definitely possible. One of the most common reasons for this is pseudoexfoliation syndrome. In pseudoexfoliation syndrome, the fibers that hold the lens implant in place are weak, so the stability of the implant position is not as good as it could be. I want to re-emphasize that this is exceedingly rare, so it is not a concern for most patients post cataract surgery.
