Lenses Galore

It seems that every time I turn around, there is a new lens available to implant for cataract surgery. This is really great news, because the competitive marketplace drives further and further improvements in technology so that we can do the most for our patients.

There is a bit of a downside, though. Every new lens that comes out is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. Of course, marketing materials and device reps will tout those kind of messages. Unfortunately, it takes a while to really sort out what are true improvements and what lenses are more hype than anything else.
