James Harden

A couple of months ago, I was watching some NBA games. There was a game in which a Houston Rockets star was injured in the eye. I didn’t think much of it, since it seems that there are many eye injuries in sports, which is perhaps why many teams have ophthalmologists on the team roster. I recently saw an entry on the American Academy of Ophthalmology website that described that James Harden was diagnosed with commotio retinae. They accurately describe commotio retinae as damage to the outer retina due to shock waves from traumatic injury. You can read the post on the AAO website at: https://www.aao.org/eye-health/news/james-harden-basketball-nba-bruised-retina. We can learn about eyes even while watching sports!
