Caterpillar
Usually, this is not a forum for me to pine for certain things or communicate my personal feelings about ideas that are not medical issues, but I am making an exception.
There is a movie called “Caterpillar,” which I believe is being released (or perhaps re-released) in theaters this month. It relates to a cosmetic procedure to change eye color. I believe that the procedure essentially boils down to the placement of an artificially colored device inside the eye covering the natural iris.
Unfortunately, it seems that these implants for cosmetic eye color change are rife with medical complications. The rate of such complications seems at minimum to be unacceptably high and might be catastrophically high, i.e. involving almost all recipients of these implants.
I have not yet seen the film, but I would like to see it to get a glimpse into the way that these issues are viewed by people who are not in medicine or the eye surgery world. Maybe someday I can come back and create another post with Siskel and Ebert style thumbs-up or thumbs-down evaluations once I’ve seen the movie!
