Diabetic Retinopathy Affects Your Life

In the March 2024 edition of JAMA Ophthalmology, Mohammad Zayed and colleagues published a review of 93 articles that showed that diabetic retinopathy negatively affects vision-related quality of life. More severe diabetic retinopathy is associated with worse quality of life.

While it may seem obvious that having worse disease affecting one’s eyes decreases quality of life, it is important for studies like these to prove it. This affects research funding and also can be used to potentially motivate patients with early diabetic retinopathy to do their best to decrease progression.
