Have you ever heard of PRK?
In the past, laser vision correction was limited to PRK. The PRK laser procedure changed the shape of the cornea to decrease the need for glasses. Eventually, a version of laser vision correction developed that involves a flap of the cornea, which is LASIK. In the early days of PRK and LASIK, PRK lost some favor due to the fact that people with higher glasses prescriptions developed haziness in the cornea after the laser. The haziness could blur vision, so there was obvious fear about the development of haze. However, as our techniques and technologies have improved, the risk of haze after PRK has decreased. There are many designations of laser vision correction that we now do that are basically similar to PRK, and they don’t carry the risk of haze that existed with early PRK. Nowadays, I rarely worry about haze after laser!
