Pressure Fluctuates

I have many glaucoma patients, as well as other patients, who wonder about their eye pressure measurements. When the left eye pressure was 13 at the last visit and is 15 at the current visit, they ask, “What happened? Why did my eye pressure go up?”

Eye pressure is not static at all times. For example, that left eye with a pressure of 13 is not “locked in” at 13 for all time. Eye pressure fluctuates throughout the day and across days. What amount of fluctuation is “okay”? That depends on the person and their individual situation. But it is good for everyone to know that we don’t expect the eye pressure to be stable at one number at all times.
