Old dogs new tricks?
I have mentioned this innumerable times before, but cataract surgery is a great procedure as it is. Improving on something that is so good is difficult to do. However, since it is a very common procedure, we are still trying to do so. In spite of this, the better the procedure, the less likely I think we should be to try to change things. In other words, when it comes to cataract surgery, we need to be really sure we are getting an improvement in order to be willing to change things. We are currently trying to figure out a way to make post-surgery infections even less common, and there are legitimate ways to do it. Today, though, I was made aware that one of the medications that we use for this can lead to loss of pigment from the colored part of the eye. This pigment loss is a rare issue, but it is one of those small things that can add up to make me a little less enthusiastic to change.
