What color is my eye?
Many patients are very particular about making sure that the color of their eyes is correctly identified. “My eyes aren’t green; they’re gray-green with hints of hazel!” When we look at eyes really closely, we find that there are many different colors in the iris. The iris is the part of the eye that people use to identify the color of their eyes–sometimes we call it the “colored part of the eye.” There are often many different shades of green and brown along with flecks of different colors that can include black and even areas of orange! Usually, people with lighter colored eyes (that are often called gray, blue, or green) have more variation in color compared to darker colored eyes (brown), but everyone has interesting iris color and shape patters when magnified. So we don’t sweat specific eye colors too much, because often there’s a whole rainbow of colors in there!
