I have written before about sleeping in contact lenses, but I feel that it is a topic that should be addressed frequently. Very frequently, I am surprised when I talk to patients about contact lenses. The common refrain is “Nobody ever told me that before!”
There isn’t any great insight here, but just a very basic and important message: I don’t believe that there are ANY contact lenses that are safe to sleep in. None. Never. Don’t do it. It only takes one episode of sleeping in a contact lens to develop a devastating corneal infection, which can truly ruin an eye if it is bad enough.
