Fat Eye

At least a few times per year, I see a patient who has a “growth” on the side of the eyeball, near the outer corner where they eyelids meet. It is usually kind of yellowish/pinkish in color, and it might move a little bit. Often, when I see this growth, I find that it is actually fat. “FAT?!?!?” Patients are often shocked by this.

There is definitely a significant amount of fat in the eye socket behind the eyeball, and it can sometimes move forward to places in which it is not normally seen. In this case, we call it “prolapsed orbital fat.”
